From Past to Future with Digital Reality.
Hexagon's Digital Twin of Qutub Shahi Tombs.
Located in the heart of Hyderabad, the Qutub Shahi Tombs are not just architectural marvels but also timeless symbols of the city's rich cultural heritage. Dating back to the illustrious 16th century, these tombs, with their majestic domes, intricate arches, and ornate stonework, hold within them the stories of a bygone era.
Recognizing the importance of preserving the legacy for future generations, Hexagon has taken up the mantle and created a pilot as a full-blown digital replica for the Government of Telangana in India. This initiative aims to ignite discussion on safeguarding India's rich heritage while showcasing the data-rich capabilities of Hexagon's digital reality solutions, inspiring hope for the future of heritage preservation.
Bringing every detail to life with multi-sensors
We deployed a range of cutting-edge tools, each with its unique capabilities. These include the Leica BLK2FLY autonomous flying LiDAR Scanner, the Handheld Imaging LiDAR Scanner BLK2GO, and the BLK360 and RTC360. These state-of-the-art instruments, celebrated for their precision and efficiency, have been meticulously selected to ensure the seamless capture of 3D data with unparalleled accuracy for this mission. The Spherical roof of the tomb was captured by the autonomous LiDAR scanner, Leica BLK2FLY. The four facades, encircled by an arcade adorned with intricate ornamental details and small minarets displaying floral motifs, along with the tomb's interior standing at 40 meters in height, were captured using the RTC360. The base and surrounding area of the tomb were scanned by using BLK2GO. The underground cellar was captured using the BLK360.
Georeferencing was achieved using the GS18i. These devices captured a total of 10.7 billion points to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the heritage site.
The raw data captured by our instruments was seamlessly processed through the Leica Cyclone Suite. This data was then used to generate stunning 3D models in the Reality Cloud Studio, powered by HxDR, our digital reality cloud-native platform.
Enhancing the digital twin experience
In the upcoming phase, possibilities are being explored to enhance the digital twins further by creating immersive Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences. This immersive experience will allow visitors to experience Qutub Shahi Tombs in a new way, potentially bring the tombs to viewers around the world, and help conversationalists plan preservation projects. This initiative is part of Hexagon's Digital Heritage for Smart Cities project. The digital twin isn't just a replica; it's a bridge – connecting our cherished past to the intelligent future of our cities. It's the power of forward-thinking innovation!
