Where optimism meets innovation

Engineering Reality 2024 volume 1

Accelerate Smart Manufacturing

For more than two decades, Hexagon’s ambitious technological mission has been to combine real-world measurements with innovative software to help manufacturers plan and predict outcomes. This vision has guided our journey into the development of technologies such as digital twins, enabled by parallel advances in underlying data infrastructure such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Today, Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division empowers makers to create without limit across the manufacturing ecosystem — whether it’s to invent, design, manufacture, test or service products. The key to unlocking the immense potential of these technologies is the synergy created when enabling technology is put into the hands of people like you, supported by a wealth of learning that comes from the community.

Our technologies remove the barriers to what’s possible and allow users to redefine the world we know through manufacturing innovation. From concept to end of life, our solutions deliver optimisation across the entire value chain, transforming design, simulation, testing, material selection, manufacturing design planning, production, inspection and real-world performance.

The power of you

This edition of Engineering Reality presents some great examples of human ingenuity, showcasing how engineering teams across our customer organisations successfully leverage our technologies across a myriad of innovative applications. Volvo Bus Corporation, for instance, has successfully reduced project cost and duration by standardising their structural analysis needs with MSC Nastran.

General Motors is using Actran to create a simpler AVAS speaker model that accurately represents reality, while the Bosch Group has slashed costs and reduced calibration time to achieve more accurate estimation in injection moulding simulation by leveraging the artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities of our ODYSSEE CAE software.

Technology as the enabler

At Hexagon, our goal has always been to bring together the physical and digital worlds with complementary combinations of hardware and software. By doing this, we give makers the freedom to ideate, explore, get it right the first time and scale production sustainably. Hexagon’s smart manufacturing portfolio supports entire product and production lifecycles, unlocking potential, solving problems before they occur and providing significant gains.

Empowering the community to nurture learning

With the launch of Nexus earlier this year, we’ve entered a new era of bringing innovative minds together across disciplines, empowering teams with data-driven insights and offering unprecedented access to information. The platform is a testament to our dedication to reshaping the manufacturing landscape.

Our recently launched Nexus Connected Worker solutions will make a valuable contribution to digitalising our customers’ shop-floor processes today, and we’re excited to make more insights available to frontline workers as we leverage data from siloed functions through the power of the Nexus platform.

As we march towards a connected future, we hope that you find this edition of Engineering Reality useful, engaging and inspiring for your next innovation.
