Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division announced today the municipality of Medellín, Colombia, and Empresa para la Seguridad Urbana (ESU) have successfully deployed Hexagon public safety solutions to automate the operations of SIES-M, Medellín’s integrated command and control center. The Hexagon solutions support 13 agencies, including the national police, fire, EMS, army, traffic and civil defense, enabling SIES-M to better serve and assist more than 4 million citizens in the metropolitan region of Medellín.
Hexagon provided SIES-M with a complete hardware and software infrastructure, including its industry-leading computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, physical security information management (PSIM) software and analytics and mobile solutions. Additionally, Hexagon integrated its solutions with the center’s phone system, alarm systems, automatic vehicle location (AVL) systems, surveillance cameras and agencies’ subsystems.
The new Hexagon solutions support SEIS-M’s public safety efforts by delivering modern capabilities for improving communications, streamlining processes, automating operational tasks and delivering real-time, georeferenced data from multiple sources. This saves staff time and helps them better assess events and make more informed decisions from the command center or the field.
“SIES-M, the central hub of Medellín, is becoming one of the most sophisticated response systems in Latin America,” said José Gerardo Acevedo, secretary of Security of Medellín. “Hexagon’s intelligent, automated solutions will dramatically change the way we respond to emergencies.”
“Everyone deserves an efficient, fast response when it comes to emergencies, and we are pleased to provide our most advanced public safety technologies to the citizens of Medellín,” said Sergio Nunes, senior vice president of Latin America for Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division. “By deploying Hexagon’s next-generation solutions, Medellín is building a strong foundation for a safer city, and will be better prepared to meet future challenges.”
