Hexagon brings productivity to the sugar-energy sector
2 July 2019
Florianópolis, Brazil (July 1st, 2019) – Hexagon’s Agriculture division will showcase digital solutions that increase process efficiency in sugarcane plantations, increasing the performance of plants and ensuring greater productivity, at the 12th Brazilian National Bioenergy Congress. Promoted by the Union of Bioenergy Producers (UDOP), the Congress takes place in Araçatuba (SP) on July 31 and August 1 In addition to lectures and discussions, participants can experience major technological solutions developed with a focus on the demands of sugarcane plantations.
"Brazil is the world's largest sugarcane producer and responsible for almost half of all exported sugar. The function of technology is to ensure more and more efficiency so that the country can increase its productivity and profitability, gaining more competitiveness in the market," said Bernardo de Castro, President of Hexagon’s Agriculture division, leader in digital solutions for the field and sponsor of the congress.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in the 2017/2018 harvest, 633 million tons of sugarcane were processed and sugar production reached 37 million tons. The intensive use of technologies is an increasingly prominent reality in the industry. Present in 46% of the world's sugarcane production processes, Hexagon’s Agriculture division develops software and hardware that goes through all processes in the sugar-energy sector: plantation planning, management of sugarcane fields, harvesting and transportation of sugarcane to the mills.
One of Hexagon's highlights at the Bioenergy Congress will be its Machine Automation solution, which integrates several products developed with the aim of improving the processes performed by vehicles and agricultural implements. One of them is HxGN AgrOn Auto Steering, used in planting, application of inputs, cultural treatments and harvesting. It helps the navigation of agricultural machines, making them more precise and ensuring good alignment and reduction of overshooting.. For example, last year, São Martinho purchased 1,700 displays to automate its fleet of agricultural machines. "These solutions help correct routes, improving processes and boosting productivity," says Castro.
Hexagon will also bring to the event the Monitoring & Operations Management solution products, with emphasis on the HxGN AgrOn Control Room. This is a system that receives data from the field in real time, allowing to monitor and manage in a centralised way all the operations of cultivation, harvest and transport of production. Through maps and reports, managers receive alerts of irregularities, incidents, machine performance issues, and any divergence regarding the planning of cultivation and harvesting. AgrOn Control Room shows, for example, the start and end time of the operations, with details of all sensor data on the machines.
