Optimising washing machine performance

People tend to keep white goods in their living spaces, making noise and vibration levels key factors when choosing a fridge, a dryer, or a new washing machine.

But reducing the vibration of a washing machine, for example, poses a sizeable challenge to manufacturers. Not only is a washing-machine a complex, multi-body system, it comprises several highly nonlinear elements such as friction dampers, rubber feet and rubber bushings.

So, when Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, set out to improve the user experience of its washing machines by reducing vibration, it turned to Hexagon’s co-simulation software. With co-simulation software Samsung Electronics was able to quickly and accurately model system dynamics and use the insight to achieve its design goals.

Adams: The multibody dynamics simulation solution

Adams helps engineers to study the dynamics of moving parts, and how loads and forces are distributed throughout mechanical systems.
