Isle of Wight Ambulance Service Implements Hexagon’s Intergraph Computer-Aided Dispatch Solution

Swindon, U.K., November 07, 2018

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust’s Ambulance Service (IoW Ambulance Service) has implemented Hexagon’s Intergraph Computer-Aided Dispatch (I/CAD) system. The industry-leading incident management solution will support the island’s emergency and non-emergency call handling and dispatch needs, improve collaboration with neighbouring services andreduce costs.

Replacing a decade-old system, I/CAD will modernize IoW Ambulance Service’s dispatch capabilities by providing better system reliability, flexibility and resilience and compliance with the latest national Ambulance Quality Indicator standards. The solution is also compatible with the U.K.’s new Emergency Services Network.

“Helping the IoW Ambulance Service move to a modern dispatch system has been a real privilege," said Nick Chorley, Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division public safety and security industry manager for EMEA. “They’re collaborating with neighbouring South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS), providing better, more resilient services to the public and saving public funds through shared technology costs and operational efficiencies.”

IoW Ambulance Service’s new dispatch solution will be part of a shared system with SCAS, linking the IoW control room to two existing SCAS rooms accessing the system, which will improve operational control and mutual support across both services. When call demand is heavy, IoW Ambulance Service and SCAS will beable to work more closely across their neighbouring operational areas.

“The collaboration and support we have had from SCAS and Hexagon have been superb,” added Maggie Oldham, chief executive officer for IoW NHS Trust. “The professionalism of all those involved has provided the Trust Board with confidence and assurance from day one, and we are very pleased to arrive at a point where we can demonstrate compliance with the new national standards for the ambulance service.”

“This type of regional cooperation is expected to increase across the U.K.,” said Chorley. “To have such a smooth and rapid transition is a testament to the vision, professionalism and collaborative spirit of the Isle of Wight and SCAS teams.”
