Hexagon PPM Acquires DST Computer Services S.A., Developer of Piping Stress Analysis Solutions for the Nuclear Industry

13 June 2017

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Hexagon PPM, part of Hexagon and the world’s leading provider of enterprise engineering software for the design, construction and operation of plants, ships and offshore facilities, has finalized an agreement to acquire DST Computer Services S.A. of Geneva, Switzerland, a longtime developer of market-leading pipe stress analysis solutions for use in the design and ongoing maintenance of process and power plants, nuclear ships and submarines, including full analysis of nuclear plant piping systems.

The acquisition of DST Computer Services and its flagship PIPESTRESS software broadens the pipe analysis solutions portfolio currently offered by Hexagon PPM. PPM will now be able to support an even larger number of design codes, including Nuclear Classes 1, 2 and 3 for new and operating nuclear power generating plants, by adding DST software to its solutions suite.

Staff members in Switzerland will remain employees of DST Computer Services. The company’s employees are actively involved in industry code and standard organizations and work closely with licensees to develop innovative solutions for today’s engineering needs and requirements.

DST Computer Services was founded in 1973. Its founder, Kent Gordis, created the pipe stress analysis program, PIPESTRESS, originally in collaboration with architect engineering firm Ebasco Services, Inc. (now part of AECOM) on several nuclear power plants in the United States, Japan, Taiwan and Mexico, and later with large engineering companies.

PIPESTRESS is now integrated with an advanced graphical pre- and post-processor, Editpipe, and the integrated solutions are marketed and sold under the name “PepS.” It is used for maintenance piping calculations and in the design of third- and fourth-generation nuclear reactors. PIPESTRESS can read CAESAR II® neutral files. This enables PIPESTRESS to analyze CAESAR II models.

Unique features of PIPESTRESS include:

  • performs all calculations required by the nuclear (and non-nuclear) piping codes in a single program execution
  • has been continuously maintained for more than 40 years
  • has been used by more than 400 engineering organizations in 30 countries to analyze piping in more than 50 nuclear power plants
  • is used as the main piping analysis software for calculations in the new reactors: EPR, AP1000 and AC-1000

Mattias Stenberg, Hexagon PPM president, said, “DST is another example of how PPM is continuing to evolve our business by pursuing acquisition targets that expand our software solutions portfolio and provide clients with greater productivity.”
