Hexagon boosts industrial digital workflows with NVIDIA Omniverse

Hexagon's reality technology and NVIDIA Omniverse combine to align the physical and digital worlds.

With the rapid acceleration of industrial digitalisation, businesses need advanced capabilities in reality capture, digital twins, AI, simulation and visualisation to enhance their complex graphics workflows — from virtual prototyping to digital factories. With NVIDIA Omniverse interoperability and physically-based rendering, Hexagon's reality technology is advancing industrial digitalisation. Through the creation of fully connected, AI-enabled digital twins, the companies enable customers to simulate end-to-end workflows in real-time.

Building on the collaboration with NVIDIA announced at Hexagon LIVE 2023, Hexagon’s inaugural participation at the NVIDIA GTC global AI conference included announcements, presentations, and reality technology product demonstrations.

Hexagon Early Adopters of NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs

Announcing the launch of NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang during the GTC keynote highlighted the transformational opportunities Omniverse technologies bring to automated production and simulation workflows. As early adopters, Hexagon’s Nexus and HxDR platforms helped illustrate the seamless integration of Omniverse Cloud APIs and software applications.

As a member of the Alliance for OpenUSD, Hexagon continues to support software and data interoperability to help our customers — across multiple industries — design, simulate, build, and operate accurate digital twins.

“Hexagon's reality technology integrates with NVIDIA Omniverse to facilitate a seamless alignment between the physical world and everything that is planned, designed and simulated in the digital world. Together, we are shaping reality.”

Integrating Hexagon reality technologies and Omniverse Cloud APIs

Utilising products such as the Leica BLK2GO handheld 3D scanner, scans are imported into Hexagon’s Reality Cloud Studio, powered by HxDR, where they are aligned with the mechanical CAD elements. The precise reality-based data is then brought into NVIDIA Omniverse, via OpenUSD universal data interchange, where it is merged with the platform’s physically based visualisation and simulation capabilities.

These up-to-date digital twins of industrial facilities allow teams to visualise and simulate complex, physically based scenarios to precisely align equipment and structures.

With Hexagon Nexus, NVIDIA Omniverse APIs, and Microsoft Teams, engineers can work together to design, visualise, and evaluate detailed parts within a realistic manufacturing scenario instantly and collectively. Hexagon, in collaboration with NVIDIA, delivers advanced solutions for industry-wide problems such as data sharing, real-time cooperation, and visual accuracy in large digital twin models.

Featured reality technologies on display at NVIDIA GTC

Through our complementary technologies, we aim to support industrial digitalisation applications, spanning sectors such as architecture, engineering, construction, high-performance computing, academia, and smart cities, to enable better design solutions and efficiency.

  • The Leica BLK series democratises reality capture with its advanced technology and range of products, including portable, handheld and flying laser scanners. Working with NVIDIA and Microsoft, we facilitate up-to-date digital twins for simulation and IoT.
  • HxDR, Hexagon’s digital reality platform, is a cloud-native platform that offers capabilities for geospatial data management, AI-based processing, data fusion, visualisation, and collaboration. The reality data is brought into Omniverse where it is merged with the virtual world for advanced simulation.
  • Nexus, Hexagon’s manufacturing platform, connects people, technologies, and data, enhancing the manufacturing process through data-driven insights. Using Nexus with NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs, engineers can collaboratively design, render, and review precision parts in the context of a physically accurate manufacturing process — all in real time. This allows us to bring more precise models into Omniverse for further simulation and physically based visualisation.

Through its powerful combination with NVIDIA technologies, Hexagon will equip enterprises with the tools and solutions they need to build physically accurate, perfectly synchronised, AI-enabled digital twins that can be used to transform organisations.

These solutions deliver seamless, collaborative planning through a unified view, so industrial customers can better optimise workflows and improve efficiencies at scale.
