German Federal Police Improve Planning Response Management with Hexagon Solution

The Challenge

With 41,000 employees throughout Germany, the German Federal Police is one of Europe’s largest police organizations. Responsible for securing national borders, protecting transportation infrastructure, combating terrorism, and managing special operations, the German Federal Police supports diverse policing scenarios in major urban centers, uninhabited areas, and everywhere in between.

To better manage and support special operations and major events, leaders at the German Federal Police needed a specialized planning and response tool to centralize resource coordination, communication, and incident management.

The agency wanted a solution that would integrate with its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system while providing additional capabilities for managing information during major events. German Federal Police also needed the solution to interface with other emergency service agencies, as well as have customizable workflows to support diverse operations.

The Solution

German Federal Police selected Hexagon's Safety & Infrastructure division to help the agency achieve better planning and response management through a specialized solution – one that would be easy to use, efficient, and integrate seamlessly with its industry-leading CAD system.

Powered by Hexagon’s major event management software, German Federal Police can separately plan, support, and manage special operations and incidents while connected to its CAD system. With the solution, the agency can manage operations and incidents in a hierarchical and cross-organizational manner. The software interfaces with multiple agencies and third-party CAD solutions, making simultaneous resource coordination, communication, and incident management seamless.

The solution enables German Federal Police personnel to proactively customize workflows based on a historical set of assumptions prior to a special operation. If an unplanned event occurs, German Federal Police personnel can reactively create workflows based on changing conditions and activities in the field. It also collects, shares, and stores operational and geospatial data for complex decision-making in real time or for analysis after an event.
