Strata’s aerospace hub

Strata Manufacturing PJSC, established in 2010 and based in Al Ain is a manufacturer of composite parts for aerospace industry. Strata is wholly-owned by Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi-based investment and development company, and is part of Mubadala Aerospace, Communications Technology and Defense Services. Among the partners of Strata are the world’s leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Boeing, Airbus and Alenia Aermacchi. The heart of Strata business is located in the 25 square kilometers aerospace hub in the surrounding of Al Ain International Airport. The construction of the hub started in 2010 and Strata was the key anchor tenant there. According to the Al Ain strategic 2030 plan, the aerospace hub will consist of various industrial projects, a business park, office facilities and educational research.

Control of tooling production and maintenance of jigs and fixtures

In this strategically located manufacturing plant of Strata, measuring systems from Hexagon Metrology help to assure the quality of composite parts such A330/340 Ailerons which are hinged control surfaces attached to the trailing edge of the wing produced for Airbus. A Leica Absolute Tracker AT901 Long Range with a hand-held wireless Leica T-Probe and a ROMER Absolute Arm are used in tooling production as well as for the maintenance of jigs and fixtures.

Portable measuring arm for small fixturing parts

The Laser Tracker from Hexagon Metrology was bought by Strata in September 2010. After three years of positive experience with this portable measuring system, Strata decided on the second solution – the ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated laser scanner. Thanks to the infinite rotation of its main movement axis, the perfect balance and the fully integrated and certified laser scanner system, the ROMER Absolute Arm from Hexagon Metrology was a perfect choice for the inspection of small fixturing parts.
