HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, 4 May 2021

Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division today announced Huntsville Utilities, one of the largest municipal electric providers in the southeastern U.S., has chosen Hexagon’s advanced distribution management system (ADMS) to optimize the utility’s emergency response. HxGN InService will enable Huntsville Utilities to respond more quickly to outages and provide real-time status information to customers.

Hexagon and Huntsville Utilities have collaborated for more than 30 years to provide best-in-class service for Huntsville and Madison County. In 2020, the two organizations announced a multi-year endeavor to automate and revolutionize the utility’s engineering and operations, beginning with a network modelling project based on Hexagon’s G/Technology. The next phase of the partnership will kick-off in summer 2021 with the deployment of HxGN InService, which will be used by customer service, operations, and field teams to manage the utility’s electric, gas, water and fiber infrastructure.

"When we deploy the Hexagon solution, we will be able to identify outages more quickly and reduce the time our customers are without power,” explained Wes Kelley, CEO of Huntsville Utilities. “Providing real-time communications to our customers is a tangible value that directly speaks to Huntsville Utilities’ best-in-class service."

Huntsville Utilities’ deployment of Hexagon technology will span all aspects of emergency response. The new system will enable the utility’s operators to make decisions based on current conditions with interfaces to the company’s SCADA control system and smart electric meters. Field users will leverage Hexagon’s new browser-based mobile client to review, edit and complete work orders on smart tablets, and analytics will be used to optimize future grid performance.

“This marks another significant milestone in our partnership with Huntsville Utilities,” said Steven Cost, president of Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure and Geospatial divisions. “When this project is complete, the residents and businesses in our local community will see immediate benefits in overall grid reliability.”

Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division supports hundreds of utilities and communications customers around the world with solutions for network engineering, network operations and other business functions.
