HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, September 12, 2016

Halton Regional Police Service of Ontario, Canada, has been named a 2016 Computerworld Data+ Editors’ Choice Award honoree for its use of Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure software. This prestigious honor recognizes innovative big data initiatives that have delivered significant business value.

To better manage growing demand on public safety services, Halton Regional Police Service created a new Police Analytics unit with a mandate to exploit data to makepolicing more efficient and effective. Working with Hexagon, the police department deployed Hexagon’s Intergraph Business Intelligence for Public Safety andbuilt a data warehouse that consolidated data from various sources.

All police data is now processed through the system. Each individual action performed by officers is time-stamped and classified based on the nature of the activity. The data is analyzed to enable proactive and preventative operations. Armed with monthly, quarterly and annual performance measures, the agency quantifies officer activities, allowing supervisors to better determine how to allocate teams to improve public safety.

“Hexagon’s Intergraph Business Intelligence for Public Safety product is a key component of our analytical infrastructure. It provides the raw materials that our analysts turn into actionable insights that support the Service,” said Police Analytics Coordinator Joseph Glover, Halton Regional Police Service.

The Computerworld Data+ Editors’ Choice awards program was launched in 2013 by IDG’s Computerworld editorial team to recognize organizations that are mining big data to analyze and predict business trends and monetize this information. Organizations were asked to complete questionnaires detailing their big data projects, which were then reviewed by the Computerworld editorial team. From those questionnaires, honorees were selected for their ability to achieve business benefits through big data and demonstrate real-world results and best practices. The Data+ Editors’ Choice Awards honorees and their achievements are highlighted in a special feature on Computerworld.com and in the September issue of Computerworld.
