Improving mine safety
Safety’s too important for partial solutions. Learn how Hexagon helped Minera San Cristóbal S.A. deploy our solutions in Bolivia to address risks, minimize nuisance alarms and get everyone home safely.
The first accident-avoidance on-person device using precision location technology, Hexagon Personal Alert ensures 360-degree visibility of pedestrians around heavy equipment.
Wearable device adds protection to operators and pedestrians who deal with the dangers of blind spots, noise, heavy traffic, and poor visibility.
Heavy traffic, large machinery and poor visibility make safety a constant challenge in busy mines. Hexagon Personal Alert is small, ergonomically designed device intended to eliminate accidents between pedestrians and heavy machinery.
Integrated with Hexagon OP Collision Avoidance System, Personal Alert is the industry’s first accident-avoidance on-person device worn using the reliability and precision location technology.
Equipped with Personal Alert, anyone who is working around heavy machinery will now be visible to operators within 50 meters of their vehicles. In busy, noisy mining environments, those in the area will be alerted to vehicles close by. Faced with imminent danger, pedestrians and equipment operators are now empowered to act.
Personal Alert is designed for haul trucks and all other heavy and light machinery in mining operations, where close interactions with humans occur. By reducing the number of incidents, Personal Alert reduces costs and improves productivity. Most importantly, everyone goes home safely.
Precision technology means reliable notifications for long range (< 50m) and accurate distance measurement (<10 cm). Each pedestrian tag contains a unique ID, which if within a vehicle range is transmitted in real time with location and danger status for monitoring/reporting.
Integrated with Hexagon OP Collision Avoidance System (CAS), Personal Alert uses Wi-Fi, GSM or LTE CAS capabilities. All safety-related data - pedestrian tag status, alerts, and dangerous situations - is transferred to the web application for monitoring.
Ergonomic wearable tag is light-weight, easy to wear with a 16-hour battery life, increasing pedestrian’s acceptance. Proven CAS concept of highly configurable detection zones allows the Personal Alert system to be adapted to specific mine requirements.
