To measure is to know
Measurement is foundational to life as we know it. Every structure that stands, every component that fits, every aspect of the world we’ve shaped and the limits we push, depends on one thing – measurement.
From microns to Mars, measurement powers our progress

“If you want to understand the reach of measurement technology, look at any item in your house, step into your car, look up at the planes in the sky – everything you see has been made possible by precision measurement technology.”
Anders Svensson, President and CEO, Hexagon
Measurement is everywhere
From the moment early humans shaped the first stone tools, we’ve relied on the ability to compare, judge, and align. We measured the stars to navigate the seas and the land to build our villages. The measurement tools we created made us efficient, protected us, and gave us the knowledge needed to achieve more. Today, Hexagon’s measurement technology enables us to build cities, manufacture goods, produce food, mine minerals, discover, preserve, protect, and invent.
If you’ve ever wondered how much measurement really matters, take a look at what it has helped us achieve.
100% of structures ever built
Every building, bridge, tunnel, and piece of infrastructure in human history has relied on measurement for design, construction, and verification. Today, Skanska is using Hexagon’s precision measurement technologies to help build the world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnel.
2 billion+ cars manufactured
The global automotive industry relies on precision measurement to assure the quality of thousands of parts and components. At the extremes of performance, it helps Oracle Red Bull Racing turn thousands of rapidly evolving components into race-ready cars.
2.6 billion tonnes extracted
Mining requires precise measurement to safely extract and sort over 2.6 billion tonnes of usable iron ore, used in construction, infrastructure and manufacturing globally. At the Mansourah-Massarah mine in Saudi Arabia, Maaden uses digital mine technology to increase operational efficiency and productivity.
What is precision measurement?
Precision measurement is the capture of the physical environment at the highest possible level of detail. It means knowing with verified, repeatable certainty the exact dimensions of a component, the true position of a structure, or the real‑time location of a machine moving at speed. Modern measurement technology enables us to see down to a micron – smaller than a bacterium.
“What cannot be measured cannot be managed. And what cannot be verified cannot be trusted.”
Burkhard Boeckem, Chief Technology Officer, Hexagon
The impact of measurement on AI
With digital twins, we can develop, test, and perfect ideas before anything is real. AI strengthens this intelligence. AI systems learn from data, and the quality of their learning depends entirely on the quality of the data going in. Precision gives artificial intelligence a accuracy and certainty needed to create impact and outcomes.
