Hexagon’s Patrícia Procópio named Women in Mining 100 nominee

Hexagon’s Mining division is excited to share that Patrícia Procópio, Director of Planning & Innovation, is a successful nominee in the 5th edition of the Women in Mining UK's “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” (WIM100). This biennial publication celebrates 100 women who have made inspiring contributions towards a stronger, safer and more sustainable mining industry. 

Procópio, a chosen nominee out of more than 900, is also the president and founding member of the Women in Mining - Brazil chapter. 

“I am very honored to be recognized as WIM100, a very important milestone in my trajectory of more than 30 years of hard work and learning in the mining sector,” Patrícia Procópio said. “I have dedicated myself to the development and application of exponential technologies, in a dream of re-signifying the new mining of the future–but in all this time I also learned that, beyond technology, transformation will only come when we build together, men and women, an industry that is increasingly responsible, safe, sustainable, inclusive and diverse.”

Patrícia’s work has been greatly recognized throughout the industry as of late. She was honored with the Maura Menin 2022 Medal by the Society of Engineering of Minas Gerais State-SME, as well as Personality of the Year 2021 - Female Leadership in the Mineral Sector by Brasil Mineral Magazine.

Hexagon’s Mining division is happy to support the Women in Mining organization and is working towards its own diversity and inclusion initiatives. In early 2022, the division appointed their own Diversity & Inclusion Officer.

“A few years ago, I discovered the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) agenda and how essential it is for our sustainable and responsible future,” Procópio said. “Afterwards, I discovered the global Women in Mining organization and its movement. Since being a founding member of Women in Mining - Brazil in 2018, I haven't stopped studying about and working on Brazilian DE&I initiatives in mining. This type of non-profit work is tireless, but not thankless. Being WIM100 comes as a new impetus, knowing that I don't dream alone and that I am surrounded by many other inspiring women. The power will always be in the people.”
