Germany in 3D: professional GIS data for all

Hexagon provides the first current and homogeneous Germany-wide digital surface models with matching standard orthophotos.

We use two sources for elevation data: aerial imagery and LiDAR. While LiDAR-derived models offer higher vertical positional accuracy, imagery-derived models are a cost-effective alternative typically with higher point densities, better canopy modelling, as well as increased building material identification and classification accuracy.

Imagery-derived elevation data is available wherever standard orthophotos are offered, including North America and Europe. LiDAR-derived elevation data is only provided in urban areas through our Metro HD city program.

Leverage digital surface models (DSM) to extract elevation data of built-up and natural features. We offer countrywide photogrammetric DSM of North America and Europe at multiple resolutions and point densities. Photogrammetry-derived elevation values represent the highest elevation for each pixel, while LiDAR-derived DSMs are generated using first return point data.

Digital elevation models (DEM) provide direct and interpolated heights of the earth's topographic surface devoid of all above-ground features such as buildings and vegetation. LiDAR-derived DEMs are produced using classified ground data returns, while photogrammetric DEM relies upon automated grid interpolation to remove surface features in the data.

A multifunctional data set that enables 3D modelling, LiDAR point clouds provide high-accuracy spatial data of physical objects and terrain using a collection of dense point measurements. Our point clouds are encoded with spectral information from corresponding aerial imagery and include intensity, return number and scan angle as attributes.
