Driving safety and productivity at Tokatindung

At its Tokatindung gold mine in North Sulawesi, PT Archi Indonesia set out to balance safety, productivity, and sustainability. Operating one of southeast Asia’s largest fleets, the company faced challenges with manual fleet management, long queues, fuel waste, and operator fatigue. By partnering with Hexagon, PT Archi introduced integrated digital mining solutions that turned these challenges into opportunities. With OP Pro optimising haulage and OAS reducing fatigue risk, Tokatindung became a regional showcase for modern, data-driven mining practices that deliver results for both people and performance.

How Tokatindung mine moved from manual to digital

Before adopting Hexagon solutions, fleet management at Tokatindung relied on paper logs, handheld radios, and in-person instructions. Tracking performance was limited, truck queues and hang times slowed operations, while operator fatigue risks remained unmanaged. Hexagon worked with PT Archi to phase in OP Pro and OAS while driving adoption through training and change management. The results were powerful: truck productivity up 28%, fuel use down 31%, and fatigue-related alerts cut by 79%. Most importantly, Tokatindung has recorded zero fatigue-related incidents since implementation, proving that technology and culture together can transform mining outcomes.

Technology and culture advancing together

Tokatindung’s story shows that safety and productivity don’t need to compete, they can strengthen each other. OP Pro gave supervisors real-time visibility of truck movements, queues, and haulage performance, making it easier to reduce delays and improve utilisation. At the same time, OAS provided automated detection of fatigue and distraction, alerting operators and supervisors before risks turned into incidents.

Yet, technology alone wasn’t enough. PT Archi and Hexagon placed equal focus on change management, building trust in new systems. Operators were trained, coached, and shown how data could make their work easier, safer, and more efficient. Supervisors gained confidence in data-driven decision making, while leadership fostered a culture of continuous improvement.

The results speak for themselves: higher throughput without extra equipment, reduced emissions through fuel savings, and most importantly, zero fatigue-related incidents over three years of operation. Tokatindung has positioned itself as a safe, sustainable, and community-minded mine, leading the way for modern mining in southeast Asia.
