Case study: Additive manufacturing for spare parts in the rail industry

Structural performance validation & cost optimisation of FDM printed replacement parts

Additive manufacturing for spare parts in the rail industry

Additive manufacturing has been recognised to bring significant benefits in terms of lead times and cost reduction for spare part applications in the rail industry. Angel Trains has used Digimat to validate the optimised design of an armrest printed with Stratasys’ Ultem 9085 resin filament. The optimised design of the printed armrest allowed to achieve 50% weight and cost savings, while still fulfilling the structural requirements.
