Each year, Hexagon recognises innovative customer advancements through its Honouree programme. In 2018, some found new ways to use cutting-edge technology across manufacturing, infrastructure and agriculture to improve operations, while others applied mobility, mapping and safety solutions to make the world a better place.
Known as “the most thoroughly tested brand in trailer history,” Airstream and its silver recreational vehicles are American manufacturing icons. The company leveraged mobile technology to improve its quality inspection processes, giving employees greater visibility and more direct control over inspection process and data through a custom app developed in partnership with Hexagon.
More than 500 police officers protect employees and train passengers for U.S.-based rail service Amtrak. Historically, Amtrak officers used radio communication and handwritten notes to track information. To improve their location data and respond more quickly and efficiently, Amtrak’s police department implemented digital solutions with Hexagon that fully embrace mobile and cloud technologies for public safety to quickly alert and dispatch patrols where needed.
Wichita State University’s National Institute of Aviation Research (NIAR) is on a mission to conduct research, provide education and share technologies that will advance aviation and other industries that may benefit from its research. Using Hexagon’s laser-tracker technology, NIAR developed an automated metrology system capable of scanning the complete surface of a jet wing in under four minutes. This technology enables greater efficiency and productivity for aerospace manufacturers, while encouraging the next generation of aviation engineers and innovators to let their passions take flight.
Hongdao National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in China is charged with urban emergency management for 167 square kilometres of land and 81,000 residents. Working with Hexagon, the city implemented cross-functional information sharing to improve the public emergency unified management. The new system provides collaboration and communication across 21 internal departments and organisations, allowing for efficient data sharing and coordinated emergency response.
Special Operations Solutions (SOS) is a small group of specialists that delivers services and products for the geospatial intelligence, aviation, C5ISR and information technology communities. Its GeoFOCIS technology is a command and control system used by the National Interagency Fire Centre in the U.S., part of the Aerial Firefighting Use and Effectiveness Program that manages firefighting operations in real time onboard aircraft and at ground stations. Working with Hexagon’s LuciadLighstpeed software, GeoFOCIS facilitates real-time integration and editing of mapping sensor data, a real-time capability that provides firefighters on the ground with mission-critical, actionable information that allows them to control fires and save lives.
Suzano Papel E Celulose is the second-largest eucalyptus pulp producer worldwide and Latin America’s largest producer of printing and writing papers. The company uses Hexagon’s onboard controllers for fertilisation control, guidance, monitoring, spray control and bait monitoring, as well as Hexagon’s intelligent planning, optimisation and management software to make sense of the data capture and optimize workflows. Suzano is increasing machine control, reducing waste, and better managing data and resources, using smart agriculture principles to supplying products and services that are profitable for the company, yet sustainable for the environment.
Japan’s Toyo Engineering Corporation is known as a leading innovator in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) market. As an early adopter of Hexagon technology that enables instant access to extensive project data at any time, on any device, from any location, the custom Smart Cloud environment ensures faster project start-up, easier handover, global reach, optimized workflows, and on-demand access to consistent and accurate data. Toyo is currently implementing Smart Cloud to help manage two very high-profile projects – PETRONAS’ multi-billion-dollar RAPID project in Malaysia and the execution of a 500,000 t/y ethylene plant in the United States.
York University in Toronto, Canada, is an internationally recognised leader in sustainable construction for higher education with a campus building network spanning over 500 acres. The university has partnered with Multivista, part of Hexagon, on over 15 projects to date, making full use of comprehensive visual construction documentation services including photo, facility videos, webcam, immersive walkthroughs, and building information modeling (BIM) integration. BIM is a critical element in York’s sustainability initiative that will help them continually innovate and optimise green building construction to construct, renovate and manage its campus facilities for decades.
